This is the Problem with Florida Representative, Matt Gaetz
This is not going to be a long story. I rarely write on political issues, primarily because I don’t consider myself well versed in political matters. But, like many, I have my opinions on politics and various politicians. This story is more of an opinion, than specifically about political issues.
Recently, Matt Gaetz R-Fla., made two statements that shook me to the core. I’m not here to slam anyone if they respect Matt Gaetz and all he stands for. But I can’t keep quiet — I can’t not share my opinion of what I consider to be two outrageous comments made by Gaetz, and shared by Salon.
According to Salon, Gaetz has stated that he is very open to offering Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse an intern position within Gaetz’s office, if Rittenhouse is found not guilty in his ongoing trial (which is now in jury deliberation). Gaetz stated that it’s his opinion that Rittenhouse should be offered another opportunity to help his country. Help his country?! I’m scratching my head, wondering how Gaetz can even fathom that Rittenhouse’s travel to the Kenosha riots — his ridiculous decision to bring an assault rifle, and his ultimate killing of two men and wounding of another, is something that helped our country.
Now, don’t misunderstand me. It’s my belief that the three men shot by Rittenhouse were most likely there in Kenosha, to take part in the demonstrations. In the course of a few weeks, it’s come out that they all had their own issues. But that does not make their shootings right. While I believe Rittenhouse did indeed feel as though his life was in danger, I’ve stated in a previous story that Kyle Rittenhouse had no business being in Kenosha in the first place. He may have felt he was helping, but ultimately he was not. And for Gaetz to suggest that Rittenhouse is some kind of patriot looking out for the welfare of his country is nothing short of ludicrous. He should not be treated as a hero, and offered a position within Gaetz’s office, in the wake of injecting himself into the Kenosha chaos. Enough said.
