The Sad Reality of Violence Among Native American Women
Violence perpetrated towards Native women and girls needs more attention
If you follow my stories on Medium, you probably know that I focus a lot of my writing on missing person cases. After I retired from law enforcement and forensic child interviewing, I made the decision to focus on writing. And while there are many topics that I could write about, I found that missing person cases was a passion that I wanted to share.
For the last few weeks, I’ve written numerous pieces on the Gabby Petito case, and the ongoing search for Brian Laundrie. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — I’m glad that Gabby’s case has gotten so much publicity. But I also wish that other cases received the same amount of attention that Gabby has garnered.
One positive result of all the media attention of Gabby’s case, is that it has fueled new interest in other cases of missing women and men. Part of that interest has centered around a revival of interest in missing Native American women. Let me just say that I’m excited about this development. Because it needs to happen — and it must continue.
