Hi Quinn, I'm Scott, and I'm a former police detective and Forensic Child Interviewer. I write stories about the disappearance of News Anchor Jodi Huisentruit (in 1995) here on Medium.
I was a detective at the time that Jon Benet was killed. I have followed this case for years, and to this day I still believe that while the case may have been solvable then, it's less so now. But I don't feel that it's out of the question that it could still be solved.
I want to commend you on this well written and articulate story. Like many, I have always leaned towards someone either in the family, or a close friend, being the killer of that poor little girl. You make very good points that the Ramsey's behavior following the murder, was clearly bizarre. I've never bought into the whole intruder thing, and as Jon Benet's injuries were consistent with CHRONIC sexual abuse, it's clear that it had been ongoing for some time.
In law enforcement, there is a term known as "overkill". This occurs when the killer goes the extra mile to assure that the victim is dead, so that they are certain not be identified by the victim later. It would have easy to strangle Jon Benet to death and be done with it. But the killer went the extra mile to make sure that there was no chance whatsoever, that Jon Benet could miraculously identify her attempted killer ( if she had survived). Overkill is often committed by someone known and close to the victim. I've always felt that the crushing injury to her skull, may have represented overkill.
Anyway, just some thoughts on the case. Thank you again for a great read, and for keeping Jon Benet's case alive.
Stay well, Quinn.
