Hi Julia! In my years of working with victims of domestic violence (both teen and adult), a very common thread in each case, was that the victim either did not see the red flags, or they dismissed them all together. I think that there are lots of reasons for this, but I believe one main factor is that the victim truly hopes things will change for the better, and holds on to that hope. I'm not sure if that was a thought you felt, but I've seen it with lots of cases I worked.

In my book, you are hero for taking the steps to get away from a very bad relationship. You found the strength and courage to do what thousands of women (and men) can never do. I'm super proud of you for taking that step, and I hope that you continue to find strength through your writing.
